Identity of Vancouver’s Olympic Leak

Identity of Vancouver’s Olympic Leak

I’ve been informed of the name of the Council member who is the source of this sensitive leak.

By this time tomorrow, all of Vancouver would have learned the name of the sitting Council member who released the confidential 2010 Olympic $100 million loan material to the media.

A scandal of sorts… with some citizens making bets and playing detective this past week. A little bit of colour in an otherwise boring election.

The UGLY Chinese Canadian cannot speak for the fellow who let this sensitive material out, but what I will say is that, it’s a bloody shame. I think election fever and the competitiveness of this civic race really brought out the worst in people.

I don’t know… but maybe people make mistakes – clouded judgements or something in the euphoria of things.

Oh well… that’s politics… I guess.

    ………….
    I don’t understand this part.
I would think that the leak is warranted in the interest of Vancouver taxpayers. Most people think the deal is kind of stinky. If the politicians have not put the city’s finances at risk, why isn’t Ms Lo there at the in-camera meeting.

    Hi Happy-

It’s all about rule of law and procedure.

    And yes it Stinks.

I agree that bailing out a bunch of runny nose developers is akin to asking for a kick in the crotch. I don’t want my tax dollars channeled to these clowns any more than you or others would. But everyone involved in the decision and overview voted unanimously in favour. I just assume there was no other choice.

But the real distraction now is that this Leak issue has become the biggest detractor to the entire civic election.

Real issues have been ignored and overlooked. Blind sheep followers in both main civic parties just cheer along …like brainless zombies.

I think you’d agree that it’s wrong that some have chosen to cloud real issues by using this breach of public trust as a platform …ignoring real issues.

Oh, and about Ms Lo. Only she can speak for herself… I think it’s apalling that there’s been no official statement from her office — vacation absence or no vacation. A business doesn’t stop just because a CFO has gone AWOL. That’s why we have procedures and protocols in place. Is the City that messed up that we don’t have a “plan B” in place when one of their executives go MIA?

It’s sheer incompetence on behalf of the City. Allowing speculation and innuendos to fester all over the place – and taking away the focus of real election issues.

What a shame. Real issues got sideswipe by crass incompetence.

Thank you Sir for the patience to explain it to me.
Yes the city appeared to be sloppy.
And yes how could law-abiding citizen like me ignore “rule of law and procedure”. :)

    Interesting turn of events.

To those who had contacted me, have received my thoughts in private… so you know where I am coming from.

What was interesting was (some) of the media’s decision not to release the name. Something they claim, about the on-going police investigation.

Since I am commenting after the Vancouver civic election, I am wondering out loud, if an earlier release of the person’s name would have changed the outcome.

With all due respect, I doubt it would make any difference.
This is the age of blogging. Bloggers share information and no longer tolerate secrecy and entitlement. But I could be wrong though.

I thought it was way too funny that BC Lee’s version of when the missing docs landed on his desk differs from his staff.
So it isn’t just sloppiness but too much inside fighting and closet politics that sank the secret submarine imho.

  • tUCC says:

BC Lee…I hope we’ll hear the end of this lack lustre politician (The Georgia Straight’s description of Lee).

Lee has an amazingly selective memory – remembering things the way he wants to spin it. And getting caught this time, again… thankfully.
