2010? Fools Gold medal race

19 Dec Posted by tUCC in Politics | Comments

Can’t believe what I heard on the radio the other day.

An absolute insult to our collective intelligence.

A Vancouver Olympic (Vanoc) mouthpiece made a statement to the effect of…

“We’re fortunate that Vancouver’s Olympic building effort got under way before this tough financial crisis… blah blah blah.”

What the guy was trying to say was that we (Vancouver citizens and BC folks) got a hell of a deal a couple of years back, as it’s really tough to get financing today, intimating we taxpayers got a great savings.

WTF?

Aren’t today’s interest rates half of what they were a few years back?… and back then, weren’t we paying top dollars for construction material like concrete and steel? You say “we must got a great deal back then?” When the stratospheric labour costs allowed some folks to print money? …. and now you’re telling us “it made really good economic sense!?

Is this guy for real?

How on earth could we have gotten a better deal on labour and construction material costs a few years back? AND, isn’t it easier and cheaper to get competitive financing now?

Maybe I’ll show up at the next Vanoc press conference. I might get to see one of these spin meisters burst up in flames with their Olympic sized Fool’s Gold winning tales.

Yes Virginia, there is an idiot in the Village of Vancouver.
