My friends at the CBC call it the “Tool shed”. As neighbours next to this building, I guess they are entitled to share their opinions.
An Olympic box designed by Tools, commissioned by Tools, and made all us Canadians, feel like Tools.
My Architect friends called it the biggest piece of fucken dog shit in town.
Owch!
My tender ears.
And I didn’t make this up. So, just what is this piece of Turd / Tool?
The 2010 Olympic Canadian pavilion.

Readers, you decide if this box is a Tool box, an ugly piece of shit, or not
Maybe my Architect friends are sore that the box had been designed by a foreign firm.
Maybe our Canadian government think we don’t have any creative talent in our nation. That’s why they chose an American design outfit. Yeh, what a bunch of sore losers we have as designers in Vancouver. Bunch of whiners.
Ugly is in the eye of the beholder.
According to the National Post newspaper, Architects state that they were let down by a design they condemned as, “an ugly, unimaginative embarrassment”.
Gamesbid.com website further writes,
Canadian Architect magazine editor Ian Chodikoff said Canada could have created something that would better showcase the country’s design talents to the world.
He said, “you could probably give that to any architect and they could do something far more delightful. It’s shameful, an embarrassment and it represents to a T the current Harper (Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper) regime’s concern for design, architecture and innovation in this country”.
“It looks like a prefabricated building, a kit building”, said Wayne De Angelis, regional director for the Province of British Columbia and the Yukon for the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
…
Always quick to defend, Canada’s Heritage Minister James Moore, unveiled the pavilion, and according to Gamesbid.com, said:
“is going to be a destination for people to come and enjoy the Games, not to stand with folded arms and have an architectural experience. We can engage architects and we can spend endless amounts of money if that’s what people want, but I don’t think that’s what taxpayers want. And frankly, I think if you compare it apples to apples with the other pavilions that are on the ground in the city of Vancouver, ours looks fantastic”.

definitly an ugly piece of dog shit. Just like Jim Moore and his sugar daddy Steven Harper. As ugly as hell. Welcome world to olympics. come to Canada pavilion and get uninspired!
dog shit dog shit!!!! har har har
In contrast, Canadian Pavilion at Beijing 2008 was kind of unique. But then Beijing is a polluted city. On the other hand, visitors will be wowed by Vancouver’s natural beauty, they probably won’t notice the ‘Tool Shed’. Best® place® on® earth®.
Yes Happy… you are correct.
With® Glowing® Hearts®
DOG SHIT!!!
definitely for the doghouse! pure CRAP
I hope the Architectural institute of BC will file a complaint against minister Moore’s derogatory statement about Architects.
It’s imbeciles like James Moore and his uninformed comments about the valuable service Canadian Architects provide that gives public misconceptions.
Moore owes BC and all Canadians an apology.
And there is more… from Wednesday, January 27th National Post (LInk Here):
“We can engage architects and we can spend endless amounts of money if that’s what people want, but I don’t think that’s what taxpayers want,” he said. “And frankly I think if you compare it apples to apples with the other pavilions that are on the ground in the city of Vancouver, ours looks fantastic.”
Canada has been criticized for erecting frumpy pavilions before.
Most recently, the $28-million Canadian headquarters for the upcoming Expo 2010 in Shanghai was criticized for being overseen not by an architect, but by circus troupe Cirque du Soleil.
Another, lingering problem for some critics is the Canada pavilion at the Venice Biennale. A permanent structure intended to showcase a representative Canadian artist to the world at the prestigious art event every two years, it was designed by Italian architect Enrico Peressutti and built in 1958. Complaining about its size and technical limitations has become something of a tradition for Canadian artists.

The news mentioned that the 2010 Canada Olympic pavilion is now a million plus dollars over. That’s not the only bad news.
Canada Olympic pavilion is delayed and will be opening after the opening of the Olympic games.
And american TV network NBC, the official U.S. Olympic TV network is screaming bloody mad, as VANOC is relegating them to a basement bunker, while keeping the best top floors for themselves and for CTV.
What a bloody mess!
Go Canada Go!
