This blog was initiated by a lonely banana on the west coast of Canada (i.e. a Chinese in Vancouver, eh) … but has since been expanded to a number of like-minded people who are,

• Bananas (yellow outside, white inside)
• Eggs (white outside, yellow inside)
• FOBs (Fresh off the Boat)

We’re a collection of opinionated characters who care about issues that don’t often see the day of light. We’d like to offer a balance to ‘Political Correctness (PC) gone Wild’. It’s unfortunate that ‘PC’ is stifling real meaningful ideas and discussions. We’d like to explore difficult issues here.

1. Several universities in both Canada and the United States have portions of material from our blog as part of their reading material/ course curriculum
2. During the month of May, 2011… our blog hit a quarter of a million page views/month
3. We’ve been informed that a number of Canadian political parties read our blog to get a feel of the “Chinese pulse” in the community
4. We get on average, a dozen email requests a week to post reader contributions onto our blog – in not only English, but in Chinese, Spanish and French languages
5. We are one of the longest continuous blog on Chinese-Canadian and Asian-Canadian issues

Banana Pride!

This blog celebrates all that is Banana! A banana is an ethnic  Asian person who was born or raised outside Asia… spending much of his or her formulative years in the “West” (eg. Australia, Britain, Canada, the USA, etc). This blog started with, and will continue the exploration of Chinese-Canadian roots and will now define the arts, culture and pride of bananas. Ideas on what it is to be banana.
